You Can control your life! There is no such thing as being a helpless victim; you are a victim only if you choose to allow yourself to be one. You always have options; you simply need to exercise them. Some common options are:

• A nutritious or non-nutritious diet
• Setting goals or not setting goals
• Being a person of your word
• Career
• Lifestyle

Through these choices, you create your own physical, emotional, and spiritual health and happiness.
But, what about genetics? Aren’t we all usually a victim there disease and illness that runs in the family? NO. You can, through skillful living, prevent most of these issues from materializing. You have the option to allow negative traits to hold you down or be your reason to excel.
There was a set of twins who grew up with an alcoholic father, but as adults chose two completely different paths. When asked if they drink alcohol one twin said “Of course, I’m going to be an alcoholic, my father was one”; the other twin said “Absolutely not, my father was an alcoholic, there's no way I'm gonna be one.”
Then what about unexpected accidents, such as natural disasters, car wrecks, criminal assaults, etc.? Again, most of these circumstances can be avoided by being aware of one's surroundings and being observant. Many times we ignore the red flags then get upset when bad things happen. And even if an undesirable event does occur, we have the choice of learning and growing from it, or letting it handcuff us. You CAN be the director of your life…instead of just an actor!!
Where can I start? The essential first step in gaining control of your life is accepting full responsibility for it. (If you blame outside circumstances for your situation, you thwart your own growth and give away your innate control. You actually cheat yourself.) You are responsible! Only you can make it happen!
Then what? Commit to gaining control! Make it a priority!
